Big Frog Motorsports and pilot Mark Whitener made the trek to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) on Thursday afternoon as they were one of 13 drivers elected to be part of the FANS Fund for the 34th annual USA Nationals weekend. With 49 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries on hand for the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature, Whitener came two spots short of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth-place finish. After Mother Nature shifted his B-Main to Friday afternoon, Mark fell short of a transfer position with a fifth-place outing.
Later Friday evening for a pair of heat races and the FANS Fund Dash, Whitener placed fifth in his first heat before finishing fourth in the second round. With the top 16 in passing points getting locked into the main event on Saturday, Mark was sitting in 19th overall.
In the Kyle Koch Memorial FANS Fund Dash, Mark outran Garrett Alberson and Bobby Pierce in the 12-lapper to pick up the $2,500 payday.
Rolling off on the front row of his B-Main on Saturday night for one final shot at the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals, Whitener slammed into the turn-one wall on the opening lap after his throttle stuck. He was able to walk away uninjured.
