Bailes places third at Lancaster; salvages sixth-place finish in Blue-Gray 100

Kicking off the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series doubleheader weekend, Ross Bailes and the Big Frog Motorsports team invaded Lancaster Speedway (Lancaster, S.C.) on Saturday afternoon for the Palmetto State 50. In a field of 18 cars, Ross recorded the eighth fastest lap overall in time trials before placing third in his heat race. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Bailes muscled forward three spots in the 50-lapper to finish third behind Zack Mitchell and Brett Hamm with Brandon Overton and Ben Watkins rounding out the Top-5. On Sunday, Bailes headed to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) for the event co-sanctioned with the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series. Drawing 28 cars for the 30th annual Blue-Gray 100, Bailes followed up the fastest lap overall in time trials with a 10-lap heat race victory. Receiving the pole position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main via the redraw, Ross paced the field for the first 76 circuits until a fading right-rear tire went flat. Charging from the tail of the field in the remaining 24 laps, Bailes marched forward to finish sixth. (Steve Moore photo)
