Whitener scores Top-5 finish with Lucas Oil at BRP
Big Frog Motorsports followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the two-day K&N Filters Winternationals. Following the seventh-fastest lap in his time trial group, Mark Whitener improved one spot in his heat race to finish second. Starting the feature in seventh, Mark clawed forward three spots in the 40-lapper to register a fourth-place finish. He trailed Tim McCreadie, Devin Moran, and Brandon Sheppard to the checkers with Ricky Thornton Jr. coming in fifth. (Heath Lawson photo)
For another $10,000-to-win A-Main on Tuesday, Whitener appeared to cross the line in third in his heat race but was penalized for the proper deck height. Slated to start near the tail of his B-Main, Mark was a scratch to save equipment.
On Thursday evening at All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Fla.) for the General Tire Winter Nationals, Mark’s second-place finish in his heat race positioned him ninth on the starting grid for the feature. Experiencing mechanical issues early in the race, Whitener triggered a caution on the ninth circuit after slowing on the track while running in fifth.
For the finale on Saturday after Mother Nature axed Friday’s program, Whitener secured his spot into the $15,000-to-win A-Main with a third-place finish in his heat. Rolling off 10th, Mark was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on the 10th circuit with smoke billowing from underneath the hood.
