Ashton Winger captures Cotton Pickin' 100 opener at Magnolia
Ashton Winger pocketed $4,000 for his Friday night victory during the Cotton Pickin’ weekend at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
The win was his third of the year in the Big Frog Motorsports / M&W Transport No. 58 Dave’s Towing / Schaeffer’s Oil / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model and his fifth overall of the season.
He added a sixth-place finish in Saturday night’s $12,000-to-win finale.
"It just goes to show how good this car is," Winger said. "The racetrack was pretty opposite on both ends. It was pretty rough and treacherous down (in turns one and two),” Winger said in Victory Lane on Friday night. “If you could get through there pretty good, you could carry good speed off of two and launch you down into three.
“I again want to thank everyone with Big Frog Motorsports for this great opportunity. They give me everything I need to be successful, and I’m extremely grateful for it.”
Ashton Winger was back behind the wheel of the Big Frog Motorsports No. 58 Late Model on Thursday evening at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) for the rescheduled COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) event to kick off the Cotton Pickin’ 100 weekend.
With 37 cars taking laps in time trials, Winger clocked in 10th-fastest in his group before placing fourth in his heat. Moving forward eight spots in the 30-lap feature, Ashton marched to a seventh-place finish.
On Friday, Ashton topped his group in qualifying before streaking to a heat race victory. Wrestling away the lead from Neil Baggett on lap 25 of the feature, Winger soared to his fifth win of the 2022 campaign and second in the Big Frog Motorsports entry.
He collected $4,000 ahead of Neil Baggett, Brian Rickman, Payton Freeman, and Mason Oberkramer.
For Saturday’s finale, Winger secured his spot into the $12,000-to-win Cotton Pickin’ 100 with an eight-lap heat win. Coming one position shy of a Top-5 finish, Ashton recorded a sixth-place outing in the 60-lap affair.

Winger and the team now turn their attention to this Saturday’s Michael Head Jr. Memorial at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway. The $5,054-to-win program is sanctioned by the XR Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series Late Models.
Winger topped the event in 2021 and will be looking to claim another title in 2022.
